In 2008, Valerie Willman was diagnosed with two forms of breast cancer. Through the grace of God and prayers of so many faithful supporters, Val is healed today. During the process of claiming victory over cancer, Val was encouraged to write in a journal format, about her personal journey. This is the actual Introduction from the book:

Victory Over Cancer Journal: Introduction
"In the following pages I invite you into my personal journey through cancer. I have chosen a journal format for the purpose of illustrating my daily experience. As you read my journal entries, I pray that the Lord will lead and guide you to receive the message he has especially for you.
Some of the entries will be short and others quite lengthy. You will notice significant gaps, easily identified by the dates, representing the depth of my resistance to God nudging me to write. (It’s not easy pouring my heart out onto pages that I recognize will become public.) As you read you will be exposed to emotions and feelings that I wrestled with while giving God license to use my experiences as a vehicle for sharing real events, real fears and most importantly, for communicating real hope.
Whether it is you, or someone you know, in this day and age we are all affected by cancer. I pray that something that I share in this book will assist you in your cancer journey.
How will you proceed? Will you give God permission to reveal his indescribable mysteries of grace and truth? Will you relinquish control over your journey through cancer to him, effectively potentiating his purpose for you within the context of impending death? Jesus, the son of God, ultimately rose from the grave and was glorified. But this happened only after he surrendered to the cross, a death of mortifying proportions, and trusted his father’s plan for his life. What glory will God bring into your life and the lives of those around you, consequent of your choice to trust him and his plan for you?
Your attitudes, your decisions, will have an impact on others. I view it as a significant “ripple effect” in the pond of relationships. One decision, one attitude, impacts the water of the pond, sending waves of subsequent influence. Sometimes, the waves reach further than your eye can see.
I am attempting to make waves by writing this journal."

Our heart for this book ministry is to reach as many people as possible that are affected by the cancer diagnosis. This includes families and friends who link arms and march into the battle with those of us who receive the infamous diagnosis. Our aim is to offer hope, encouragement and possibly provide some direction, by sharing our story. Mark and Valerie Willman have donated funds for the initial publishing and distributing costs. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will go directly into the ministry for the purpose of funding efforts to get the books into the hands of those who might benefit from reading it.
If you believe that the Lord is calling you to help with this ministry in any way, please feel free to contact the Willmans directly.

The Willmans at the Indy 500 Parade: Their "Victory March!"
The story of how Valerie and Mark Willman were able to participate in the Indianapolis 500 parade as part of Purdue's All American Marching Alumni Band in 2009, is included in the book. It truly was a gift, and most definitely, a victory march.
